Do I need an equatorial mount?

Type 2: Equatorial mounts

Of course, if you want to do any long-exposure photography, like longer than a few minutes in a photo, you absolutely have to have an equatorial mount..

Can you autoguide an Alt-Az mount?

I want to autoguide with my Alt-Azimuth mount for long-exposure astrophotography. Will this work? Technically, yes, it will work. Many modern autoguiders can keep up with the guide rates involved.

Are equatorial mounts good?

Equatorial mounts

Aligned on the north celestial pole, an equatorial mount makes it easy to track stars as they move from east to west through the night. Because Earth is rotating, the objects we see on the celestial sphere move across our sky.

Do I need an autoguider for astrophotography?

Even with your polar alignment spot-on, and your payload perfectly balanced, autoguiding is often necessary to track your object smoothly enough for astrophotography.

What does an autoguider do?

The autoguider captures regular snapshots of the sky and a computer compares them to detect star drift caused by the apparent movement of stars across the night sky, issuing corrections to the mount via a cable attached to the autoguide port to keep the mount on track.

Is OAG better than guide scope?

You can think of an OAG as more of an accurate, guaranteed good autoguiding measure when compared to a guide scope. This comes at the cost of setup difficulty, but it is worth it when possible. When at all possible I prefer to use an OAG, and in some cases I have to use one.

What is guidescope?

The guidescope is a small refractor or even a modified finderscope that is mounted along with the imaging telescope and camera and its job is to capture an image of a single star using its own small camera and then to analyse the movement of that star in the field of view using guiding software.

Is auto guiding necessary?

Yes, autoguiding the Atlas is really necessary. It might not be on a mount with high-end encoders and uploadable PEC smoothed and fixed using PEMPro. It will be on the Atlas. At least at anything over about 200mm focal length.

What is a Celestron autoguider? The NexGuide Autoguider from Celestron is a stand-alone system that eliminates the necessity of tethering it to a laptop computer for finding or tracking your celestial targets with a motorized alt-az or equatorial mount. A Aptina MT9V034C12STM CMOS sensor allows the tracking of even faint stars, and the larger 5.6×4.

Does equatorial mount track stars?

What is the purpose of autoguider?

An autoguider is an automatic electronic guidance tool used in astronomy to keep a telescope pointed precisely at an object being observed. This prevents the object from drifting across the field of view during long-exposures which would create a blurred or elongated image.

What is EQ1 mount?

Among all the Sky-Watcher equatorial mounts, the EQ1 mount is the most suitable for novices for its portability and ease of operation. It is perfect for smaller and lighter astronomical telescopes and its two slow-motion cables allow precise tracking of celestial objects.

What is a Dobsonian mount?

A Dobsonian telescope is an altazimuth-mounted Newtonian telescope design popularized by John Dobson in 1965 and credited with vastly increasing the size of telescopes available to amateur astronomers.

What is SharpCap?

SharpCap is an easy-to-use and powerful astronomy camera capture tool. It can be used with dedicated astronomy cameras, webcams and USB frame grabbers.

What is an EQ2 mount? The EQ2 Equatorial Mount is suited to both beginners and experienced astronomers. It offers very good stability and the tall, fully adjustable aluminium tripod with large accessory tray is a real plus.

How do you use EQ mounts?

What is equatorial tripod? An equatorial mount is made up of a tripod and a mount head, which holds the telescope and moves it about on two axes, one called right ascension (RA; east-west) and the other called declination (Dec.; north-south).

Are iOptron mounts good?

The iOptron CEM60 is a center-balanced equatorial telescope mount that provides an excellent platform for visual astronomy and astrophotography. What makes the iOptron CEM60 computerized telescope mount so special is its impressive weight to payload capacity ratio and the now famous “Z-shape” design.

What is AZ mount?

An altazimuth mount or alt-azimuth mount is a simple two-axis mount for supporting and rotating an instrument about two perpendicular axes – one vertical and the other horizontal. Rotation about the vertical axis varies the azimuth (compass bearing) of the pointing direction of the instrument.

Is iOptron a good telescope?

iOptron SkyGuider Pro

A star rating of 4.5 out of 5.

How do you use Ipolar?

Where is iOptron located?

A Brief Timeline of Events

What does AZ mean in telescopes?

Alt Az (short for altitude-azimuth) is the simplest of all telescope mountings. It’s designed to allow the telescope to point up and down and left and right. Alt/Az mounts come in various forms ranging from something which looks similar to a camera tripod through to fully automated GoTo systems using a forked mounting.

How long can you go without guiding?

Tracking and Guiding are not the Same Thing

It is possible to be tracking the sky without guiding. When it comes to astrophotography, it’s the tracking that is most important because, without it, stars will begin to trail after a 30-second exposure or sooner.

Do I need a guidescope? If the focal length of your imaging scope is 1500mm, then you need a guide scope with a focal length of at least 150mm to give sufficient resolution for effective autoguiding. This is not a hard and fast rule, but it is helpful to understand what focal length you need.
