Are L lenses that much better? What you get with an L is solid build, higher quality control, excellent optical design, better coatings, great ergonomics, and weather sealing. There are a number of non-L lenses that are up-to-snuff in their own right. For instance I’ve been agonizing between the 70-300 IS and the 70-200 f/4L IS.
